In May 1942 the USAAF ordered the A-2 leather flight jacket under contract 42-18775-P: fifty thousand jackets from one of the distinguished contractors of the day, one of the final lots of the A-2 programme. Square-cornered patch pockets, mustard lining, dark brown leather with brick-red wool ribbing: the definitive military leather jacket that sat on the shoulders of wartime USAAF pilots. This is REAL SIMONS’ reproduction of that contract, in goatskin.

The shell is “Laidlaw” special goatskin, developed in-house by REAL SIMONS in 2025. It carries a large, vintage-feeling grain and a substantial fibre, yet it is softer and more comfortable to wear than horsehide. A heavy oil-wax finish gives it body, so the jacket holds a clean silhouette without ever looking bulky.

The details follow the original: a reproduction of the 42-18775-P collar label, raw wool ribbing knitted to the original specification, a zipper stamped with the USAAF logo, coloured buttons made to special order, a high-density all-cotton lining, and Coats core-spun leather thread from Scotland. Two interior pockets are added for the way clothes are actually used today. The presence of a genuine A-2, with the wearability of the present.
