Brake House Introduction - Why Selvedge Denim

Jul 13, 2025

Fellow Riders, hope you’ve all been doing well. This will likely be the final post in our introductory series about Brake House. Of course, we’ll continue sharing content that reflects who we are and what we stand for — but as far as first hellos go, this feels like the right place to wrap things up.

And for this last note, I want to talk about denim. We’ve already shared our thoughts on leather jackets and boots — two items we deeply believe in. Now it’s time to talk about something that’s just as important — and, in many ways, the perfect complement to leather: denim.

Denim is one of the most accessible pieces in any wardrobe — but ironically, it’s also one of the most misunderstood. Once you start searching for “quality denim,” you’re met with a maze of terms, specs, and options: Selvedge vs. non-selvedge, raw vs. washed, indigo dyeing, chain stitching... the list goes on. Even denim with the same ounce weight can vary widely in price depending on fabric source, weave quality, and construction.

To be honest, denim was the item we debated the longest. With so many denim brands and shops already offering a wide range of fits and price points, we wondered: Do we really need to add to the mix? But in the end, we realized — if Brake House is serious about championing motorcycles as a lifestyle, we can’t leave out denim. It’s a core part of the look. Without it, something essential is missing. We wanted to offer a complete style experience, from head to toe — and that meant denim had to be part of the picture.

That’s why, at Brake House, we focus on what matters most from a rider’s perspective: a pair of jeans that’s both versatile and foundational. Ours are made from high-quality raw selvedge denim, and designed in the most classic, time-tested fit. You won’t need to overthink how to style them — just wear them with a leather jacket and boots, and your look is complete. Whether you're on the bike or off, you’ll be good to go.

So don’t stress too much about how to wear your jeans.
There’s no one right way to “do denim.”

As long as you avoid shrinking them in boiling water, the rest is up to you. Wear them how you like. Live in them. Our goal is to continue offering raw selvedge denim of excellent quality — at a price that makes sense. The more you wear them, the more they mold to you — eventually becoming like a second skin. No need to rush the process. Just put them on when you feel like it, go for a ride, and over time, the jeans will start to tell your story. Fades at the knees, creases from the wind — they’ll all become part of the narrative your life leaves behind.

Until then, we hope Brake House continues to be a trusted companion in your riding life.
