What Is Selvedge Denim — And What Makes It So Special
Most jeans today are made with wide-width fabric woven on high-speed projectile looms. These machines are fast and efficient, but they cut corners — literally. The edges of the fabric are left raw, prone to fraying, and require overlocking to be usable.
Selvedge denim, by contrast, is made on narrow shuttle looms — traditional machines that weave the fabric in a continuous loop, creating a clean, tightly bound edge known as the self-edge (or “selvedge”). This difference in weaving method creates a fabric that’s:
- Tighter and denser in construction
- More durable and long-lasting
- Richer in texture with natural variations and depth
You can see the signature edge — usually a white strip with a colored thread — when you cuff the jeans.
Raw, Non-Washed Denim - Make Your Denim One & Only
All of our jeans are also non-washed raw denim, meaning they haven’t gone through any industrial fading, softening, or distressing processes. They’re rigid at first — and that’s a good thing.
Because raw denim hasn’t been pre-shrunk or pre-worn, it reacts directly to how you live in it. Over time, the fabric forms:
- Natural creases and fades based on your movements
- A fit that molds to your body, like a second skin
- A visual story unique to your lifestyle
It’s true that raw denim can shrink, especially after the first wash. But that’s part of the process. As you wear them, they begin to shape themselves to you — adapting, softening, and becoming more personal with each ride and step.

Fair Pricing, Not by Cutting Corners — But Cutting Out the Middle
We’re often asked how we keep our prices reasonable. The answer is simple: the production partner we work with manages the process end-to-end — from rawhide selection to tanning to final garment production — and we sell directly to riders. There are no markups from layers of middlemen, no inflated prices just for the sake of a logo.
This isn’t about cost-cutting. It’s about value control — ensuring that what you’re paying for is the jacket itself, not the packaging around it.

No Fuss. No Overthinking. Just Good Denim.
We know denim can seem complicated. Soaking, sizing, fade patterns — it can feel overwhelming. But honestly, you don’t have to worry about all that. There is no such thing as the right way to wear denim. As long as you don’t wash them in such a high temperature, they will work just fine all the time. Brake House denim is built to be lived in — not babied.
And because we sell directly — no middlemen, no inflated markups — we’re able to offer exceptional denim at a price that makes sense. So, our denim can be a great chance for the new beginners to see and try the real denim and also for the denim maniacs to realize that they don’t have to spend more than 200 dollars to buy premium Japanese-brand denims.
We focus on timeless cuts and high-quality raw selvedge fabric that fits the motorcycle lifestyle. No gimmicks. No trends. Just essential gear that looks right, feels right, and lasts. So whether it’s your first pair or your fifteenth — don’t stress it. Just put them on, go for a ride, and let the jeans take it from there.
