Brake House and Real Simons: The Partnership Behind the Jackets - Brake House

Brake House and Real Simons: The Partnership Behind the Jackets

Brake House is Real Simons' official retailer and wholesale partner outside China — and the next phase, joint product development for international buyers, is just getting underway. This post explains the partnership and what it gives the customer.

Real Simons sells outside China through one official channel: Brake House. That is not a casual line in a press release — it is the structure of how the brand reaches international customers. The relationship covers more than putting product on a website. It covers sizing, fit, materials choices, aftercare, and the shared long-term vision the two brands have for what heritage leather should cost at scale.

This is Post 3 of a three-part series. Post 1 covered the Real Simons brand and the people who built it. Post 2 covered the workshop and the leather. This post covers the partnership, what it actually does, and what you get when you order through it.

Why Real Simons chose Brake House

Real Simons could have sold internationally through any number of distributors. The brand picked Brake House because the two operations were built around the same idea: heritage-grade product at honest prices, brought to a wider audience than the category usually serves.

That alignment matters because international heritage menswear is full of resellers who treat leather as a fashion good — markup-heavy, no education, no aftercare. Real Simons did not want that. The brand wanted a partner that could explain the jacket properly, fit it properly, and stand behind it after the sale.

Why Brake House chose Real Simons

The reverse decision was made on the same basis. Brake House evaluates the brands it carries against a simple test: would the work hold up if a customer compared it, piece for piece, against the global benchmarks in the category? In Real Simons' case — Shuangyang's tannery-direct sourcing, the thirty-plus-year artisans, the strict hide rejection, the horsehide-first material philosophy — the answer was yes.

The other factor was the people. Working with Xijie and Director Huang means working with operators who care about the same things Brake House cares about: durability, fit, honesty in materials, and not pretending a jacket is more than it is.

What "joint product development" actually means

Joint product development is the next phase of the partnership. Sizing and fit work is already in motion; materials collaboration and broader co-developed pieces follow from there. There are three areas the program covers, and the direction on each is already clear.

Sizing — broader access, already underway. Real Simons already produces classic American-style leather jackets, and the brand's longer vision is more ambitious still: bold American cuts paired with Japanese-level execution on detail and finish. That direction is exactly where Brake House and Real Simons are collaborating most closely. The immediate priority is sizing — bigger fits for customers who have wanted a Real Simons jacket but haven't been able to access one cut to their build. Brake House has been feeding fit data, sample feedback, and adjustment requests back to the workshop, and that work is now landing in the patterns. The first upgraded-fit jacket is expected to launch in Fall 2026 — Brake House isn't naming the model yet, but it will be one of the styles customers can look forward to. From there, the rollout follows the obvious logic: upgrade the fits people actually buy first, in order of popularity, and work outward.

Materials collaboration. As Post 2 covered, leather buyers in different markets value different things in a hide — some prefer cleaner, more uniform surfaces; others prefer visible grain and natural creases. The plan on co-developed pieces is for Brake House and Real Simons to select hides together with the international customer in mind: enough character to read as authentic to a Western eye, while keeping Real Simons' density and luster standards intact.

Co-developed pieces. The longer-term goal is a subset of Brake House × Real Simons jackets that are not stock Real Simons SKUs — patterns adjusted, materials selected, sometimes hardware or lining changed for the international customer. The first of these are in development. They will only exist because the partnership exists.

What buying through Brake House gives the customer

Four specific things, beyond the product itself.

Authenticity, with source of truth. Brake House is the authorized retailer of Real Simons outside China. If a jacket is being sold internationally and the seller is not Brake House, the brand cannot vouch for the chain of custody. Customers ordering through Brake House are getting verified Real Simons product, sold by the official channel.

Fit guidance from people who handle the jackets. Brake House works with the international sizing data and has the patterns in hand. If a customer is between sizes or wants to understand how a specific jacket cuts on their build, that conversation happens with someone who has actually fitted the jacket on multiple bodies — not a chat agent reading from a size chart.

Aftercare and service. Heritage leather is a long-term object. Brake House provides care guidance, can advise on conditioning, and handles service questions that come up over the life of the jacket. The relationship does not end at the order confirmation.

First access to the co-developed pieces as they arrive. The Brake House × Real Simons co-developed jackets — patterns and materials refined for international buyers — are in development now and will only be available through Brake House when they launch.

The shared vision

Both brands are working toward the same thing: the Uniqlo of Amekaji. Heritage-grade leather at honest prices, brought to people who would otherwise have to choose between collector-priced repro and disposable fashion leather.

That is the shape of the partnership: Real Simons handles the workshop, the leather, and the build. Brake House handles the international customer — the fit, the access, the aftercare, the trust. Together, the two pieces add up to what neither could do alone.

What do customers get when they buy Real Simons through Brake House?
Verified chain of custody, real aftercare, and access to the co-developed Brake House × Real Simons pieces and special larger sizes for international buyers (both upcoming).

What does Brake House mean by "joint product development"?
Three things, with the program just getting underway: sizing and fit refinements for international markets, materials selection on co-developed pieces, and the development of jackets that are not stock Real Simons SKUs but exist because of the partnership. The collaboration happens at the pattern, hide, and hardware level — not just at the order.

Does Brake House help with sizing?
Yes. Brake House works with the international fit data and the patterns directly, and provides sizing guidance to customers who are between sizes or want to understand how a specific jacket cuts on their build. This is a real conversation, not a default size chart.

Does Brake House offer aftercare?
Yes. Heritage leather is a long-term object, and Brake House provides care guidance, conditioning advice, and service support over the life of the jacket. The relationship does not end at checkout.

Why do Brake House and Real Simons share a vision?
